A common weakness in thoroughbred feet are quarter cracks, fortunately we've dealt with a large number of them at different stages with numerous different methods from patches to re-sections.
With the progression of glue we have the capability to fix and repair broken or damaged hooves and even the option to directly glue shoes on without the use of nails.
Casting is a technique we mainly use to securely fit shoes or plates to poor hooves. The method involves wrapping the hooves in a casting tape to give an artificial effect of thicker and/or stronger walls. In turn this then allows us to nails shoes on securely.
We have a range of different pads and sole packs we can apply to horses hooves. This can provide packing and protection to horses with a range of conditions from thin soles and sensitive feet to puncture wounds and bruising.
Limb ailments and deviations are common in bloodstock and as such it's important to have the knowledge and experience to apply the correct treatments.
The overused term 'remedial' farrier is not one were overly keen on. The meaning of 'remedial' is to provide a remedy for something. In our opinion all farriers have the capabilities to remedy or correct troubled hooves, where it differs is just how complicated those issues are.
Unfortunately we find ourselves having to use the term for the fear of being mistaken of being incapable of this kind of work.
